unfortunately I have had to close the school while I am working full time .With the extra travel, it's too difficult to also teach classes. I would encourage all those interested to go to a very experienced teacher , healer and friend of mine Gerard Menzel. He is based in Carisbrook and also teaches in the Castlemaine area.Thankyou to you all for coming to classes. I wish you well in your ever deepening understanding of the watercouse way ! I will let you know when the school reopens . Please visit my taichi brother's blogspot below. Thanks again . Best wishes Sifu Andy Green

<span style="font-family: "arial"; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial; mso-fareast-font-family: Osaka;">Socrates was in trouble. He had been
encouraging the youth to enquire and ask questions, thus challenging the
political and religious status quo. He was not teaching people what to think,
but for teaching them how to think. The
price for his philosophical endeavours was the choice between exile or a fatal
dose of hemlock. He defended himself at his trial but to no avail, in the end
accepting the hemlock.

<span style="font-family: "arial"; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial; mso-fareast-font-family: Osaka;">Socrates symbolises the great spirit of
enquiry, a search for authenticity as well as a resolute defiance in the face
of state-sanctioned bullying and forces that kept people shackled in
unquestioned limiting beliefs. In Ancient Greece, as with most states and
political milieus since that time, the agenda was the teaching of 'what to
think' and ‘what to believe’, the tenets of which, if accepted, led to a form
of collective sleep.

<span style="font-family: "arial"; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial; mso-fareast-font-family: Osaka;">So what is the meaning of an examined life?
If it is the examining of a life subject to intellectual enquiry and analysis,
we would be reducing ourselves to just the thinking function of mind, and in
doing this our examining would only be partial. As important as our ability to
think is – and the knowing of how to
think as Socrates championed – even more important is the knowing of who we
are, and in this knowing, understanding how we are limited by the mind.

CHI BATHING... by Kavisha

This is an exercise taught to me by Andy .

When you are feeling under par or not well, try Qi (chi) bathing. Chi means energy. Where ever you are, (you can be sitting or lying down ): conciously let the universal Qi into the top of your head from the sky and the bottom of your feet from the earth and let it circulate round the body. You can also heighten this sensation by curling the tip of your tongue to the roof of your mouth while the Qi circulates. Imagine this positive energy that is available freely from the universe to be pouring into you and healing you and bathing you.

If you have a painful area bring your conciousness deeply into that spot.It also works with emotional pain.Think of your problem then feel where it is in your ody.you may notice a tightening in the throat or your heart area or stomach...You can send a shot of consciousness to this area and deeply let yourself feel the pain without commenting mentally and notice what happens when you bring conciousness to that place. How to do it ? Breathe deeply and bring your attention and loving healing intention to that place in the body.Thich Na Hanh ,the buddhist monk says you can say to your body part that is playing up "I love you and Thankyou! "then you may notice the feeling there....again without comment..just notice what happens when you bring conciousness to the situation.

I found this cute picture below that seems to explain it all just purr-fectly!:))) Lie back and enjoy!

Give yourself a little self care and love!Learn from the cats we know and love!

You can also do this practise whether you're on a bus, or standing in a queue waiting...or even at a boring meeting in the office ! No one will ever know!:) ALSO...

“A good traveller has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving.” Lao Tzu

Lao Tzu was a philosopher and poet said to live in the 6th century BC in China . He was the founder of Daoism . Tai Chi is said to be the pure expression of Daoism in physical form . He is also known as Laozi and Purple Mist.

There are many stories about him .One of them says that Lao Tzu grew weary of the moral decay of life in Chengzou
and noted the kingdom's decline. He was tired of being a court administrator so he left heading west on an ox to live as a hermit
in the unsettled frontier at the age of 160.
At the western gate of the
city, he was recognized by Yinxi the guard .

The sentry begged the old master to record his wisdom for the good of
the country before he would be permitted to pass. Lao Tzu told him that it would be impossible to write what he knew but Yinxi insisted. So Lao Tzu surrendered to the guard and wrote down his wisdom and was set free. What he wrote
was said to be the Tao Te Ching. It is said that the sentry was so touched by the work that he abandoned his post becoming a disciple. He left with Lao Tzu, never to be seen again....
PURPLE MIST HEADS WEST

Old Lao Tzu was tired
of men and thier worldly ways
" Goodbye , goodbye to king and court
I must be on my way"

The Purple Mist heads west my friends
the Purple Mist heads west
out to the gates of Tibet my friends
The Purple Mist heads west

On his ox he travelled
through forests and through towns
Through this world of sorrows
flat plains and mountain clouds

At the western pass he met a guard
who begged him not to go
"If I was to let you go ,
you must write down what you know"

"What I know cannot be said
It's like catching water with your fist.
But I will write it down tonight .
For you I will take the risk!

The Purple Mist heads west my friends
The Purple Mist heads west
Out to the gates of Tibet my friends
The Purple Mist heads west
In the new year of 2014-15 , Andy taught Tai Chi and Qi Gong as part of the Health and Wellbeing Programme at the Woodford Folk Festival,in Queensland Australia .The daily morning classes were very popular being attended by over 100 participants and were held in the Dancehall Venue. Many people tried out tai chi for the first time and the classes were attended by all ages. The response was very positive and people went away uplifted. It was a challenge to teach a hundred people after the intimacy of our little school but Andy was given a radio mike by the ever present production team and went full steam ahead and enjoyed it very much.

Abit about Woodford...
Arguably the largest festival in the southern hemisphere, this is an amazing gathering of artists, craftspeople, foodmakers, teachers, technical crew who are all lovers of Folk Music, Arts, film and health . A festival of ideas, imagination and discussion, celebrating the many cultures that make up Australia including a large indigenous cohort of artists and healers . It celebrates the common good.

Taking place every year in Woodford Queensland between December 26th -Jan 1st in the lovely Glass house Mountains area northwest of Brisbane this permanant festival site is a former Dairy Farm that has been lovingly re- planted , re-created and turned into a creative magical village with almost total green self sufficiency lead by volunteers and administered by the Queensland Folk Federation. As the planets revolve around the sun, they "do" this revolving, but without "doing" it. As trees grow, they simply grow without trying to grow. Thus knowing how and when to act is not knowledge in the sense that one would think, "now I should do this," but rather just doing it, doing the natural thing. The goal of spiritual practice for the human being is, according to Laozi, the attainment of this natural way of behaving.

Steeped in the six harmonies,
old taoist master Zheng Seng Feng
deeply cultivating Qi
wandered Mount Wudang

He came upon a crane and snake
they circled, striking,darting, swift
he saw their artful combat make
inspiring in him , a cosmic shift

Strong like a mountain
flow like a river...
light as a feather...
let this be your tether..

He saw Wu Wei in martial form
the Mother Fist was handed down
the essence of Tai Chi was born
embraced by Taoists as their crown

Movement and breath ...with grace align
make inner power and health
into the emptiness sublime
the Seng Feng form is now our wealth

Strong like a mountain
flow like a river...
light as a feather...
Let this be your tether...
"The highest form of goodness is like water.
Water knows how to benefit all things without striving with them
It stays in places loathed by all men.
Therefore it comes near the Tao.
In choosing your dwelling, know how to keep to the ground.
In cultivating your mind, know how to dive in the hidden deeps.
In dealing with others, know how to be gentle and kind.
In speaking, know how to keep your words.
In governing know how to maintain order.
In transacting business, know how to be efficient.
in making a move, know how to choose the right moment.
If you do not strive with others, you will be free from blame..."
Kavisha with an ancient Ginko Biloba tree in Mount Wudang China

The Ancient Taoists held great reverence for trees and did many of their energetic practices with trees. Modern Daoists still do them today. The original Bagua circle walking meditation was inspired by the Daoist practices of circle walking in meditation around a tree. The Daoists, through their observations realised the healing properties of trees and that trees were natural wells of " Qi" (energy or life force) They created exercises to cultivate their own energy by quieting their minds and tuned in thus being in harmony with the tree.

This Sacred Ginko tree is 320 years old.The Red Ribbons hanging from it are wishes or prayers that are tied around a rock then tossed into the tree branches. It is said that when the ribbon frays and the cloth breaks apart, your prayer will get answered. This tree is said to be 320 years old and lives just outside the Temple of Perpetual Peace in the Wudang Mountains.

To practice Qi Gong with a tree, one simple way is you can hug the tree or lean against it. Breathe slowly, tuning into the energy of the tree. You will eventually feel the energy circulating between yourself and the tree and feel your energy replenished. This is good especially when you have jet lag or need to feel grounded. But in any case it's still enjoyable, regardless!
